The keg connection: How to find the right tap head

The keg was introduced in Great Britain as early as 1964 and has since become the standard for draft beer in the catering industry in many countries. In the meantime, the keg barrel can also be found more and more frequently in the private sector in connection with high-quality dispensing systems. Common sizes for keg casks are 30 and 50 liters.

How does a keg barrel work?

The keg is a cylindrical barrel made of stainless steel with a valve in the center of the top, called the keg head. On top of this, the appropriate keg head is attached, which supplies carbon dioxide as a propellant gas and guides the contents of the keg through the beer line to the keg dispenser. The propellant gas creates an overpressure in the keg so that when the tap is opened, the contents are forced out through a tube inside the keg.

Keg connection: What systems are there?

With all the different connection systems, it's not so easy to keep track of them all. The flat keg coupler is probably the most common keg coupler in Germany. The combi keg coupler looks very similar to the flat keg coupler, but it is a separate system. Both keg tap heads are pushed onto the side of the valve on the keg. The basket keg coupler is connected with a rotary motion. The Köpi keg coupler is actually a draft keg coupler and fits only König Pilsen beer kegs.

On request, we can also supply keg tap heads for foreign breweries, such as the popular Guinness keg tap head. We carry the Micro Matic, Toff and Hiwi keg dispensers. Further you will find in this category also stainless steel beer taps and keg wall holders.
